For many people, the idea of seeing a counsellor can feel overwhelming. My hope is that after reading this, you’ll feel a little more at ease — both about the process of therapy and about me.
I strongly believe in breaking down the traditional barriers of psychology. Too often, therapy is portrayed as intimidating — serious expressions, formal suits, and clinical language — which can make seeking support feel daunting. My mission is to offer therapy in an approachable, personable, and jargon-free environment, where you feel safe, cared for, and truly understood.
After spending almost a decade working in the corporate world as a sales executive, I found myself searching for work that felt more meaningful. That journey led me to psychotherapy, which quickly became my life’s calling. I went on to complete a Diploma of Counselling at the University of Canberra and became a qualified counsellor. I believe it is essential to build strong relationships in therapy based on trust and rapport. Research consistently shows that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is one of the strongest indicators of successful outcomes. I see it as a real privilege to be invited into the most vulnerable parts of a person’s life and to be trusted to support them.
As an Australian born in Pakistan, I have lived between two distinct cultures. Through my own personal journey, I have had the opportunity to reflect on and redefine my values, beliefs, and sense of purpose, allowing me to shape a personal identity and worldview that truly resonates with me. This lived experience informs the way I approach therapy and my respect for individual difference.
My work is guided by four core pillars: Respect, Autonomy, Open-mindedness, and celebrating difference. While many values shape my practice, these are the ones I believe are most fundamental. When these pillars are shared, therapy has strong potential to be meaningful, collaborative, and effective.
My approach to therapy is flexible and evolving, much like the research that underpins the field. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Talk Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. You don’t need to know what these terms mean — that’s not your job. Mine is to tailor your therapy in a way that best supports you and aligns with our shared goals.
During sessions, I may incorporate light humour when appropriate, as I value warmth and authenticity in the therapeutic space. Clients often describe me as attentive, patient, insightful, warm, and compassionate.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m a devoted cat person with an irresistible urge to pat every cat I meet. Living in Melbourne has also turned me into a bit of a coffee snob, and that first sip of a piccolo latte remains one of life’s simple pleasures. The gym is my happy place, where I enjoy lifting weights and feeling strong, and I also love practising yin yoga and playing Padel whenever I can.
Most of all, I’m really looking forward to meeting you.
